Preludes For The Public is a music history & appreciation podcast created by Nicole Nelson. Each episode is focused on the history and composition of one piece of music available in the public domain. Music may belong to all different genres as long as it’s 100+ years old.
Why "preludes?" — This music has had an enormous influence on what's come after it. These songs are the preludes to what we have now.
Nicole is a multi-instrumentalist and music fanatic with a degree in Digital Media Production. She also has three years of experience as a college radio DJ. This show is an effort to channel her love for music, public radio-esque programming, audio production, and history into one personal passion project.
The show was inspired by both the concept of WNYC’s Public Song Project and the style of WQXR's Open Ears Project.
